Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd, and it's a day to celebrate our planet and think about the impact our actions have on the environment. Climate change is a critical issue that we all need to address, and one way we can do that is by being mindful of our environmental behavior both at home and in school.
First, let's talk about the things we can do at home to help reduce climate change. One of the biggest things we can do is to conserve energy. This means turning off lights and electronics when we're not using them, using energy-efficient appliances, and turning down the heat or air conditioning when we're not home. We can also reduce our carbon footprint by walking, biking, or taking public transportation instead of driving a car.
Another way we can help is by conserving water. This means taking shorter showers, fixing leaky faucets, and not leaving the tap running when we're brushing our teeth or washing dishes. We can also reduce our waste by recycling, composting, and using reusable bags, containers, and water bottles.
Now let's talk about how we can be more environmentally conscious at school. One thing we can do is to reduce paper waste. This means using both sides of the paper when we write or draw, and recycling paper instead of throwing it away. We can also conserve energy by turning off lights and electronics when we're not using them and unplugging chargers when they're not in use.
Another way we can help is by being mindful of our water usage. This means not leaving the tap running when we're washing our hands or using the bathroom, and reporting any leaks or other problems to school staff. We can also reduce waste by using reusable containers, water bottles, and utensils instead of disposable ones.
In addition to these individual actions, we can also work together to make our school more environmentally friendly. This could mean starting a school garden, organizing a recycling program, or advocating for policies that support sustainability.
By being mindful of our environmental behavior at home and in school, we can make a big difference in reducing climate change. We all have a responsibility to take care of our planet, and Earth Day is a great reminder of that. So let's celebrate our planet and commit to making positive changes for a better future.

Universally, there have been modifications to schools’ curricula and the question of whether holidays should be reduced, taken away or on the flipside, retained.
As an educational institution that prioritizes your wellbeing, our position is that holidays should be retained.
This is because as Dr. Corey Gonzalez, a prominent psychologist said in his interview at KGET news, ‘When there is too much hyper arousal, we need to shut off our brain’.
What this simply means is that there is a crucial need for you as a student to relax your brain to make a pleasurable, yet productive use of your holidays.
In fact, later in this guide, we will share with you the importance of why you are given holidays as a student, so that you can maximize your holiday as a student and be in your best creative frame of mind.
Speaking of creativity, Dr. Gonzales, also said something else in the interview that might interest you, especially, if you are one who likes being innovative and having fun at the same time. (I mean, who doesn’t?)
He shared that in order for you to enhance your prefrontal cortex (the front part of your brain) and be creative, you need to sleep well, work out often, and do what you enjoy.
For this reason, make sure that during the holiday you:
Spend quality time with your family:
Doing this will help you bond with your parents/guardian and your siblings.
Improve on your social life:
Aristotle, the iconic philosopher said, ‘man is zoon politikon’ (that is man is a political or social animal).
What this means is that as a human, your default nature is to socialize with others.
This is why you get excited when you meet an old friend, or you are chatting with a family member you are close to.
But this should be done moderately and with your guardian’s permission.
Lastly, go out with family.
It could be to eat out, or see a movie at a theater or travel to see a relative.
Doing this will increase your level of exposure, help you get more interesting experiences and the ecstasy and fun will greatly improve your mental health.
Now, why are holidays so important?
Importance of School Holidays
To Improve your Mental and Physical Health
Holidays are an avenue to take a halt from the intense academic session. In school you are engaged in various academic and extracurricular activities.
While you are not to stop studying and learning, holidays give you time to enjoy your hobbies and research has shown that doing what you love helps improve your mental health. The good news is, when your mental health is at the optimal level, physically you will stay healthy too.
Enough Time to Catch up
As a student, holidays give you ample time to catch up on subjects you need to study more and topics you need to understand.
You also have time to do your holiday assignments, read those books you have longing to read and equally time to eat well and ‘gain weight for the new session’.
Finally, as you are having fun and relaxing, which is important, ensure you are not lazing around, don’t stop studying and ensure you get enough sleep.
Hurray!

Many thanks to our tireless parents, who have gone above and beyond to assist us in maintaining the efficiency of this school.
The statement made by Bob Keeshan that "Parents are the ultimate role models for children" is true. Every deed, word, and movement has an impact. A parent's impact on a kid is greater than that of any other individual or outside entity. That is why we encourage parents to actively and consistently participate in their children's educational journey.
As an educational institution, we are dedicated to instilling good values and forming people's lives, but whether or not this is feasible is completely up to you (dear parents).
Your steadfast support is essential to the educational growth of your ward, and this support includes abiding by the school's policies, providing the necessary equipment, and upholding the standards set by the school even inside your homes. This speeds up the ascent to the target height we want learners to achieve. And in order for us to quickly reach this height, you (our beloved parents) must assist by reprimanding your child in both words and actions.
Carl Jung, a well-known school psychiatrist, once said, "Children are educated by what the grown-up is and not by his discourse." This statement provides insight into what it takes to discipline a child. Admonishing children and giving them control of their academic program is effective and definitely makes a difference. Our efforts alone won't be enough to ensure the learner's academic and interpersonal success; you must actively contribute to their achievement. This can only be accomplished by paying close attention to your ward's essential needs and being flexible and adaptable to our system since every new and innovative suggestion we make is for the benefit of every student.
We sincerely hope that every child is fully prepared intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically, and while we appreciate your contributions thus far, we kindly ask that you continue.

We are very excited to introduce the video documentaries of our Learning Resource Center as we start the new year. This would be the first video category of our amazing and exciting digital library. You may be equally pleased to know that we are the first school in the country that is offering this service to all our members and in stunning High Definition.
As part of our Strategic Vision 2019-2024, we believe that the way we learn and teach must be different, exciting and modern. We believe that for education to be relevant and effective learners must learn in modern ways while incorporating traditional values. This is why we have introduced a video genre into our electronic library. Like every aspect of our LRC, it is available to all our members; students and teachers alike from anywhere in the world via any device.
Equipped with five major sub-genres; Ecology/Nature, History& Geography, War& Crime, Social, Autobiographies of hundreds of exciting titles all in stunning High Definition.
When we introduced our Learning Resource Center (LRC) last session, we promised it was going to be the most exciting library in the whole Sub-Saharan Africa. So far we have been able to exceed the expectation of our users.
With over 500 users, 3 million books and a million more added every year, our LRC is at the heart of our learning and reading culture at Greenland Hall. As required in our syllabus there are 50 books every learner at Greenland Hall must read during their time with us. This forms an integral part of our reading culture at Greenland Hall.
Coming January 2021, to foster creativity and increase curiosity among our members, we are introducing documentaries into our LRC. These documentaries would be videos. These video documentaries would run across many genres such as Nature & Ecology, War & Crime, Culture, History & Geography and Biographies all in stunning High Definition.
Users (Teachers, Leaners, parents/Guardians) would be able to stream these High Definition documentaries right from any device from anywhere as long s they are connected to the internet. As part of our Strategic Vision 2019 -2024, this is in line to prepare students for the future and to introduce them with modern learning and teaching methods.
